A question for Fall
After a slow start the Red Maples are really popping here now in Vermont.
TBH, I'm always so overwhelmed by Fall color here that I am somewhat reluctant to go out and shoot - I can just never seem to do nature justice!
That said.....this is a young tree I captured close to home as part of an experiment to see how well 'Ventosa-type' images captured with my iPhone would compare with those captured on my DSLR.
This is NOT scientific - although the number of images blended are about the same (21), the processing was slightly different for each. The main point was just to get an idea of whether the iPhone could come close.
Just to give an idea of the scene I have included a quick panorama.
So what are your thoughts? Can you tell/guess which is the iPhone composite? Is there one you prefer over the other?

You've given me an idea - why didn't I think of it before - use my phone camera for these types of images. I will often see something while driving that would work with ITR or ICM. I get that can't-shoot-without-my-camera fixation. Thank you for pointing out what should be the obvious for me. I really like the first one the most because of the feeling of depth and separation. Nice shot and editing on both!
Thanks for you feedback PG.
Whilst the iPhone cannot compare in many aspects of photography it is well suited to this process.
Don't discount that camera in our pocket - in some instances it can do an even better job than an expensive SLR.
I really enjoy the impressionist style. I think I'll try that sometime.
You definitely should Nathan. Although it may be a bit frustrating starting out it is always fun to play about, and the results can be intriguing.
Reach out if you have any questions.
Beautiful images.
I'll take the bait and say the top image is the DSLR as it seems to capture a bit more detail of the other trees far in the background.
Having said that, I like the bottom one seems to work beautifully in this composition. Even if it could be seen more over-the-top in some other situation?
Thanks for the feedback Jose. As it happens the top image was taken on the iPhone.
TBF the additional detail is likely the result of differences during processing, and not differences in technical capabilities.
I think this just goes to prove that in at least some instances the trusty iPhone can compete with a much more expensive relative.
