November Challenge - Fall Colors

I don't know whats been going on with this site lately? I haven't been getting any notifications the last couple weeks so I may have missed a lot of activity. I opened it up today and I had 93 notifications!

Since going full time with photography as my job doing real estate, architecture, interiors etc finding time/motivating myself to do more photography just for me has become kind of a chore. An unfortunate side effect of going full time with photography.

However, this fall I told my self I was going to go out and get some fall color photos. I know fall is a popular time for photographers but I find it slightly annoying. A lot of the popular spots are crowded. This is especially true if I took the short 3 hour trip to the blue ridge mountains in my home state of NC. That being said I have a couple of local spots that are off the beaten path that I knew I could rely on to not have many people, if any, and would still deliver nice photographic opportunities.

A couple of weeks ago I paid a visit to one such spot on Falls Lake in North Carolina. I spent a couple hours experimenting with compositions waiting for the sun to get lower in the sky where it really lights up the fall foliage. I also challenged myself to do a lot of shooting with my 150-600 sigma sport lens. Five of these shots were taken with that lens and the others with my 24-70 sigma art. The panorama with the bridge (4th shot) was the last shot I took for the day as the sun dipped below the trees and the light was gone. The pano is probably my 2nd favorite of the set and I was lucky to get it. I was photographing the trees reflecting (1st shot and my favorite of the set) when I turned around and saw that scene unfolding. I knew I didn't have long but managed to get a few tighter shots with the bridge and then finally that panorama that, I feel, really shows the whole scene.

Anyways hope all of y'all are doing well!

Thanks for posting Kyle. I have seen a similar issue with the FS site and like you have not been receiving notifications.

Your images show quite a depth of both color and variety. Our Fall has quickly turned into winter in Vermont, although last week's snow has now melted in readiness for the next storm.

I'm happy that you can still find enjoyment outside of your professional work, and allowing yourself to express your creativity. Long may that continue!

Oh...There you are!

You have a great set of photos here Kyle. I love the colors, reflection and compositions your chose.

Wow! These are very beautiful, Kyle. Good for you for getting out to simply enjoy taking photographs. I enjoyed reading your post too. Nice work!

Ciao Kyle!

My favorites are 1 & 3, they own depth for me. The colors of all are warm & breathtaking!
