Soooo. I got home to a wonderful package yesterday - 3 new lenses! (It is a good time to pick up lenses on eBay.)
Even though it was evening and breezy, I just couldn't help giving the first one a test drive. It was the worst lighting for a telephoto but I could sit on the porch and play. It was too dark for birds but the garden at the mailbox was fair game!
It is a Sigma AF 135-400mm f4.5-5.6 APO Lens. First impression - super heavy. I'll need a lens collar for the tripod and freehanding was almost impossible. Colors are crazy great! It will be sharp once on a tripod since the lighting was not ideal, it is heavy and I have a shaky hand and still got these below. The focus is fast too. I hope to give it a workout this weekend. I am trying to leave the other two alone until then.
Feedback welcome!
Absolutely love getting new lenses! I also love that telephoto range (or there about). My big lens is the Nikkor 200-500mm, and it is 4lbs and the size of a 2lt bottle of soda. My arms are starting to look like Popeye's lugging it around.. haha.. I just picked up some autofocus macro extension tubes for my camera, and coupled with a telephoto lens makes for some interesting macro work.
For you flowers here, very lovely. My favorite is number 4. :)
Very nice! Can't wait to see what you can do once you get it out in the light of day.
Great images Ruth, ne lens or not. I prefer those that provide a hint of the stem so they aren't 'floating'.
I think I'll pass on the heavy lenses. My favorite spots require that a hike a fair distance and I can do without the extra weight.
