Ellis Wood's picture

Lone Tree of Padarn

Image took at sunrise in Snowdonia National park in North Wales. I took a 2 shot pano, one of the reflection and one of the tree. My camera wasn't wide enough to get whole shot in.

It was a risk, as full cloud was the forecast, but thankfully we got some colour in the sky.

Any critique welcomed.

Thank you.

Just a very pleasing shot. Needs to be printed and displayed!!

Thank you!!

Hi Ellis,

Very nice picture.

Why does this shot appear rectangular in the thumbnail on the landscape group page but cropped square here? I like the landscape aspect ratio better.

My thoughts. I think the composition is very well done. You mentioned clouds. Did you take a longish exposure to try and catch some movement? Because the leaves are a little blurred by wind. Since you were doing a stitch anyway, I would suggest a very quick exposure for the tree silhouette, and longer exposures for the background. I also love the fall colours of the trees in the background against the blue of the hills. Maybe you could bring that out a bit?

Sid

yeah! In lightroom the image is meant to be square. I suppose its done that way as to fit it on the page better.

I could of, but I didn't want to detract too much attention away from the tree.

Nice composition with great color. I am sure you scouted that out and have been there many times. I would keep going back to that great location and using some HDR to bring out the great color in those trees also. That must be your secret place.

Thanks Bill. I have been before, but my composition last time was awful. next time I visit will be a nights cape shot and see what I can do then
