Black and White or Color

I saw this log on my hike to the Falls and the way the sun hit it really caught my eye. any comments are appreciated on lighting and composition would be appreciated.

Color please. The black depreciates the real nature of the log and it's environment. Nice shot

i like the B&W but you need more oomph try increasing the contrast in the midtones with a luminosity mask might help give it that punch.
to leave it in color i feel like it would need to have significant falloff/ bokeh focus being on the center but it does have a nice warm and cool contrast to it

I prefer the color version.

I like both, David! One of your best. The composition is good - perhaps I'd have just backed away or zoomed out a tad as that beautiful log is just a little crammed-in to my eye.

I largely agree with Joseph. There is a magenta tone in the shaded snow. Here are my quick "interpretations". I've tried to highlight the beauty of that jagged glowing wood.

might consider cropping most of the log and going in full-force into the gnarled, twisted bottom of the log. Could be even abstract when done.
