Lava from the air

Here are some shots from Hawaii's historical lava eruption back in 2018. All photos where taken from a helicopter or plane with a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV.

Hey Cody, the last one is very good, it's my favorite, stunning colors and shapes. The one before last is also very nice, I wonder if a black and white conversion with a really high contrast wouldn't be amazing as well. In color, people will expect to see more out of the shadows. In b&w, such deep shadows is more acceptable. In any case, nice work.

I'll try it out.

Great shots Cody!! I would love to get this kind of opportunity. Last one is a great hero shot but I prefer the details what lens were you using?

70-200mm f/2.8, Joseph - you can look up EXIF data, which is (sometimes) preserved in posted files.

Laziness got the better of me lol

Amazing shots!

Thank you

Great concept, very striking, dramatic and beautiful images, Cody. Well done. I like the darkness of the rock; if it were lighter the lava's glow would look relatively weaker to my eye

My favourite is the 5th, for that rising composition. The 1st and 8th are good compositions, too, while the last has a different character and its own appeal. But I love that red glow/black look of the majority..

thank you 🙏 I always love to hear different opinions.
