So I went out and got this 8 shot panoramic to test out the sharpness of the nifty fifty edited a bit and dropped it in my gallery almost instantly receiving a 1star not sure if I should be bothered since we all know there are trolls present but wanted to get real opinions thanks guys.
and here it is brightened up for media
I think this is a bit underexposed... The snow is coming out all gray to me with no areas close to white. Composition wise, I think it could be improved by showing a bit of the opposite shore; Looks like there are some interesting rocks over there. Hope this helps!
It does thanks Matt I’ll readdress the brightness issue this is uncropped so the background is what it is
It's pretty dark for a snowy scene are my immediate thoughts Joseph. I think you can bring a lot more light out of it. The panorama is well executed - I would not have been able to tell and looks sharp in the uploaded image.
The composition is quite plain which is not helped by the flat light. It's a nice subject but with the light you had I think it would be more effective if you just went in super close to isolate some of the more interesting shapes in the ice formations. Flat light = details and close ups day. I've attached a wee example shot from a similar scene I did a few years ago that I was quite pleased with.
Hope that's helpful and not too harsh :)
Nothing is too harsh for me lol yeah I believe I edited these on full screen brightness I’ll go back dim my screen and bring up the brightness I just liked all the textures and details coming off the rocks you might be right on the detail shots
Not for 1 star for sure...
Numerically rating art is nonsense to my mind anyway, and as for anonymous ratings... well, who cares about a nobody's views? In an instruction class, rated to a given teacher's standards, maybe they make sense.
I ignore them, and have stopped making them. Opinions with some rationale are a different matter.
As for this image, I don't think snow HAS to be white in every image. It depends on the artist's intent (and Joseph paints, so he's a REAL artist!).
Lol thanks Chris I did brighten a bit post it when kids are off to school for a comparison
Cool shot, I wouldn’t have guessed this was an 8 shot pano, maybe it would have helped to add a person for scale?
small scene using the 50mm it was about 32 inches in height but i wanted to test the new lens
It's not a one star image, at least in my books. I don't really know what I would rate it, because it's a rather technically well shot photo, but the subject matter isn't really compelling. Possibly a longer lens or slower shutter could have made better use of the location.
Nevertheless, nice work with the pano, it all seems sharp from what I can see.
yeah the shot is not the most compelling i just liked the small details and textures it might come across better printed large instead of an 8x4 inch image
