Lighthouses, how to not love them!

Lighthouses, how to not love them!
I live in southern Norway and there are quite a few really nice lighthouses which I was exploring the last few years. Some of them are accessible from land another I needed to visit with motorboat, but I had always good fun photographing them.

Here are a few pictures from my trips during sunsets and a few taken during night time where in my opinion lighthouses β€œshine” the most.

Hope you like it, and all comments are very appreciated.

Very nice bunch! I like 1, 3 & 5 the most, and I personally think #2 is both too saturated and uninteresting.

Is #3 a composite or a single long exposure, if I may?

Thanks Oren πŸ‘ about #2, it was very colourful sunset and I wanted to keep that way during post processing. I recently printed that one in 120cm size and was very pleased with result. I guess it all comes to the personal taste. About #3, good catch πŸ˜‰ it is my first and (so far) only, blend of two focal length. Ground is ~35mm and sky 12mm. Both taken this same night and position of the Milky way is accurate.

Beautiful series!
In my opinion, the last one best reflects the point and role of the lighthouse.

Agreed. A lighthouse without the ocean is just a tower with a light on it. πŸ˜‰

Interesting point of view... I always admire lighthouses but it makes sense that without sea they are just buildings. I always have in mind all surrounding. Good point, and something to consider in the future πŸ‘

Thanks a lot, glad you like it πŸ‘

great shots 1st and last are my favorites I'm hoping to get some of my own this summer on the eastern shore

Thanks Joseph! And good luck with your lighthouse hunt πŸ™‚

I like 1,3, and 5 as well, Marcin! While 1 does not have the sea, it suggests the mariner's viewpoint to me, so the lack of sea doesn't matter much, and I love that flaming sky. There is a processing halo around the building, though.

5 has a certain magic about the whole thing, probably because of the effect of the long exposure, which does not look cliched here, as it often can. For me this image has the best composition, with a certain ease about it. 2 -4 look sort of overstuffed by comparison. ;-)

Thanks Chris! Flaming on the #1 is actually light pollution from near by city. Now I see small halo behind it, nice spotted πŸ‘ #5 is one of my personal favourite, sometimes less is more πŸ˜‰ and I still like #2 and 4πŸ˜‰ they are maybe not that minimalistic but those places are far from "calm and peaceful", and I think those pictures show true nature of those lighthouses.
