I love the degradè

I think a successful photo is one that makes you look a little bit longer than a glance. This one did that for me because of the arrangement of the sun over the smokestack. At first I thought the stack might be on fire! You got a nice grading from bright to dark in sky!

Thanks Ruth. Your insights always help gain a little more understanding of photography.

PS - This group will only thrive if everyone participates. I would encourage you to join in the conversation. Critiquing develops our eyes to then critique our own work better and it helps everyone grow. My motto is "the rising tide raises all boats". I encourage everyone to join in helping us all improve. Or - sometimes a "great job" is enough!

The truth is, I look at people's works and wondered, what do I know about photography! You knot what, I was looking at some of your photos and was wondering how you manage to keep the background completely black/dark...see, I told you I really know nothing! But I can definitely say 'great job' or 'I like it so much' or 'I like this one better' and so on...You got me, I will push myself to be more active in the group.

I think you know more than you think! And - one way to participate is to ask "Hey - how did you get this background?" It just makes the board more interesting for everyone. I'm glad you here!
