Over the weekend I visited a tributary of the upper Jardine River, (Queensland, Australia) that crosses a sandstane platue. There are a number of waterfalls and the the rich browns and golds of the sandstone are beautiful to look at but I had a lots of trouble getting the balance right against the greens of the background. In the end I liked the black and whites much more. I would love to get some feedback on these black and whites
Nice shots Jonathan. I like 2 and 4 the best. 2 seems to have a bit of a color tinge to it, I assume on purpose. I think I would like it better if it were just black and white. For me, 1 and 3 have a little too much rock in the foreground. I am not sure what editor you are using, but if you are using Lightroom you might be able to get a little more out of the color pictures by adding texture and vibrance.
Thanks Shawn. I sort of only put 3 and4 up for comparison. I agree 1 and 3 have a bit to much rock. I thought that the B & W helped to compensate for that a bit.
My editory is not perfect as I choose to travel only with a samsung pad so I am doing the post with Lightromm CC and photoshop express. The colour tinge happened a bit by accident as I was adjusting the levels and did not realize I was only adjusting one colour chanel. I thought it made it look a bit vintagey......I will try a bit more texture and vibrance on the colour pics.
