Daniel Frost's picture

Yellow Birch clinging to rock face

I came across this Birch tree on a recent hike in Nelson Kennedy Ledges State Park. I really dig the look of the roots and the contrast with the moss.

Well done, I also love the root forms and the moss. Like an enchanted forest!

Thank you!

Oh niiicceee! Definitely down with trees taming rocks. The light is... (I'm not good at technical light discussions)... the light appeals to my eye. If I had control of the family credit card, this is the kind of art I'd come home with. :)

Thank you!

The light is diffuse, coming from many directions, so there are no harsh shadows, lending itself to softer, gentler images. Typically it comes from clouds in an overcast sky, or the sky itself when the sun is low. In a forest the sun can be obscured by trees. It's often bluish, especially skylight which can be very blue. This image is cool in colour balance i.e. bluish. The blue itself can suggest dusk or dawn - hence "blue hour".

This makes sense. Neat stuff. :)
Thanks, Chris.

Great job,Daniel! Good composition (I like your inclusion of that little fern at top left), and beautiful textures and subtle colours. I like your restraint.

Neat concept... restraint. I get carried away with saturation.

Thank you!
