If you love storytelling, travel, and photography, you'll enjoy this video by travel photographer Mitchell Kanashkevich.
It's not a typical video about photography technique or composition. Mitchell's video is about exploration and the essence of travel. He takes us on an epic journey along the Peruvian coast, from Ica to the north of Peru, to places most of us won't see. Throughout the video, he combines his storytelling with beautiful cinematography, showing the grandeur of the different landscapes.
But he also doesn't shy away from sharing the difficulties and dangers of traveling to desolate places, as well as the impact we humans have on nature. What we usually see on social media are polished travel photos of places like Machu Picchu, the Andean mountains, or the sand dunes of Ica. Not often do we see the trash that is covering the landscape in several areas of the country.
I also noticed it when traveling through Peru by bus back in 2016. I usually had to stay close to more populated areas of the country, where this problem is very apparent. Thankfully, Peru is large and has many places you can still find wilderness, and Mitchell's videos show some of it.
Even though this video is not a tutorial about photography or filming, there's still a lot to learn from it. It gives us another perspective on what content creation can also look like. The pace, the storytelling, and the thought-provoking nature of the video are things. I'd love to see a lot more on YouTube.
