If you are new to post-processing your work, the best piece of advice I can give is simply to remember that when it comes to edits, less is more, especially when it comes to things like color. If you look at the work of photographers you admire, you will probably notice a lot of their edits are actually quite subtle. Programs like Lightroom are quite powerful, and it often does not take much manipulation of a control to make a large difference, so err on the side of doing less to start.
