When it comes to landscape photography, a wide angle lens is usually the tool of choice and for good reason. Nonetheless, you do not have to use wide focal lengths exclusively. In fact, a telephoto lens can be a powerful tool that enables new creative opportunities. I am a big fan of using longer focal lengths for landscape work. For one, they can allow you to simplify a busy scene simply by excluding some of it. Second, the vast majority of landscape photography we consume was taken by wide angle lenses, and as such, we are accustomed to that look.
