Landscape Photography With an 85mm Macro Lens

When it comes to landscape photography, a wide angle lens is usually the tool of choice and for good reason. Nonetheless, you do not have to use wide focal lengths exclusively. In fact, a telephoto lens can be a powerful tool that enables new creative opportunities. This awesome video will show you just what you can accomplish with a telephoto lens, particularly when you use one with macro capabilities.

Coming to you from Micael Widell, this neat video shows the possibilities of shooting landscape images with the Venus Optics Laowa 85mm f/5.6 2x Ultra Macro APO lens. I am a big fan of using longer focal lengths for landscape work. For one, they can allow you to simplify a busy scene simply by excluding some of it. Second, the vast majority of landscape photography we consume was taken by wide angle lenses, and as such, we are accustomed to that look. Using a telephoto lens can instantly set your work apart simply by virtue of its novelty. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Widell.
