The photo was taken at Point Wild on the Elephant Islands, Antarctica, The location is famous for the 22 men from Sir Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, who survived there for over four months after their ship, the Endurance, was crushed by pack ice and they reached this island with a rowing boat.
