Second Wave at Sunset

Winning the daily lottery for a North Coyote Buttes permit can be a bit hectic...racing into the geofence to apply, tracking down five people on short notice, picking up the permit the next day, then finally making the hike the following day, but it was worth it. For this early December trip, we decided to stay until sunset and hike back in the dark.

The last light of sunset caught the often-overlooked Second Wave. Most people stop at The Wave, but if you hike a little farther up and to the right, this is what waits.

The hike back in the dark wasn't too cold as the rock holds onto the heat from the day. Once we crossed back over the last saddle from the rock to the sand it got a bit colder. Overall, way better than my mid-September hike back in the heat.
