Alquézar — Afternoon Light, Huesca

The castle-collegiate church of Alquézar in the Somontano de Barbastro, Huesca. The original citadel was built by the Moors in the 9th century — alcázar is where the name comes from — and converted to a Christian collegiate church after the Reconquista in the 11th century. It has been continuously occupied for over a thousand years. I shot from across the Vero canyon to get enough distance to show the full relationship between the fortress, the village below it, and the sky above.
