How to Quickly and Easily Edit Video in Photoshop CC

Scott Kelby over at KelbyOne recently shared this video showing you a quick and easy way to edit video in Photoshop CC. I personally tend to lean more on the still-photography side of things and am not entirely versed in video post production. This tutorial gives me and photographers / videographer like me a simple option and alternative to the under-equipped iMovie for quick video edits.

I've gone ahead and typed up the steps Scott walks you through in the video below for all you visual learners or people who want a TL;DR option.

  1. Organize all video clips into one folder or spot.
  2. Import images as layers in a stack (file > scripts > load file into stack), select all layers then “Make a New Video Group”. Drag and drop files to be in the right order.
  3. Trim your clips.
  4. Add transitions (fade in, fade out, etc.).
  5. Add background music.
  6. Add text and titles using the type tool then drag text layer to the top, resize as needed.
  7. Use Photoshop like always — once you have everything in order you can do everything you want to do.
  8. Export.

We also had a short video Jaron Schneider produced earlier this year that shows how to use Photoshop if you just want to color grade (if Speedgrade and Premiere's options aren't your cup of tea).

If you'd prefer to pass along the responsibility of editing to someone else, you might want to consider outsourcing your video editing.

what are the best settings like for exporting for youtube?

nerver mind :)

Since I only make the odd movie in iMovie this would be perfect for my needs to s"step up" to a more serious platform for video editing

Going to try it out tonight. Thanks for posting this!

thank you for providing a TL;DR

Any luck applying a NIK filter to a sequence and then render successfully? I tried and failed every time with just a 30 second piece of footage from a DSLR. No error message. The programa just freeze after a while.
I´ve enough RAM (16 GB). Thanks a lot. For your feedback.
