While driving on Schooner Head Road in Acadia National Park, Maine, on October 1, 2014, I found this beautiful forest of colorful leaves. I held the zoom ring on my lens and twisted the camera, zooming at the same time, with a slower shutter speed to produce this swirl. I was using a tripod with a lens collar for more consistent results, with vibration reduction disabled on the lens.
Equipment used: Nikon D700, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II, and Really Right Stuff TVC-34L tripod w/ leveling base, pano/gimbal package, & lens foot. Shot at 122mm, f/9, ISO 200, and 1/5 shutter speed.
