How Good Is This Affordable Canon Full Frame Lens?

Canon makes some awfully impressive lenses, but those options (particularly the full frame ones) are often quite expensive. That is what makes the RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens, which sits at $299, a refreshing prospect. Can this affordable and portable option keep up with the demands of modern sensors? This excellent video review takes a look at the performance and image quality you will be able to expect.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this great video review takes a look at the Canon RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens. At just $299, the 24-50mm is highly affordable, and while it has a rather limited focal length range, the tradeoff is a very small and portable lens. Its features include:

  • 8 elements in 8 groups
  • Two aspheric elements for reduced distortion and increased sharpness
  • 7 diaphragm blades
  • Super Spectra coating for fewer flares and reduced ghosting
  • STM stepping motor and fast and quiet autofocus suitable for both photo and video work
  • Optical Image Stabilizer offering up to 4.5 stops of compensation or up to 7 stops when paired with in-body camera image stabiization
  • Customizable focus control ring
  • Weight: 7.4 oz (210 g)

Check out the video above for Frost's full thoughts on the lens.

I can only say ... not as nearly affordable as if there was 3rd party lens available for us users to choose over Canons overinflated prices.
