A Review of the Versatile Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD Lens

Tamron has established itself as a manufacturer of superbly practical and affordable lenses in the last few years, but they have also started to push the boundaries of lens design to create some impressively extreme lenses. One such lens is the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD, and this excellent video review takes a look at the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice.

Coming to you from Dan Watson, this awesome video review takes a look at the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD lens. Before the last few years, full frame lenses almost never went below f/2.8, but more recently, manufacturers have pushed beyond that limit with some impressive results, such as the Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L. I have had that particular lens for about a year now, and I can't imagine ever going back to using several primes, as the convenience and image quality are simply fantastic. The Tamron lens follows a similar path and offers an even more versatile focal length range that could easily cover the needs of many photographers. Check out the video above for Watson's full thoughts on the lens.

Is this lens available in a Canon EF mount? I clicked on the link in the article, and all it showed me was some kind of mirrorless mount version. Disappointing, as 35-150 f2.8 would be an extremely useful focal length range and aperture combination on my full frame EF mount bodies.

Seems like Canon has been successfully blocking third parties from their mounts. I don't remember even the last EF mount lens announced from sigma or Tamron.

The r-mount is simply suffering right now from ridiculous lens prices and no middle ground lenses for us part-time professionals. Maybe the 85 f2 is usable. The R version Nifty fifty is useless, you might as well just adapt a better 50 mm. Even speaking of bodies, there is no modern Canon below the R6 -it's only 20 megapixels, and with taxes that's nearly $3,000. Rumors are they're supposed to be addressing this later this year but I don't have faith in it anymore.

Tamron's latest 24 to 70 2.8 has been out of stock backorder at B&h since forever. I created a stock watch notification back in October I believe. I get an email every two weeks saying it's not in stock. That's 6 or 7 months, it seems like the lens will just simply never come out.

If I hit the lotto I would surely get the 28 to 70 f2. But... I haven't hit the lotto. SO waiting on that Tamron...

A bit much

A bit too overkill
