Adobe Announces Frame.io Drive to Streamline Video Sharing Among Creatives

Unlike photography, video production often involves more than one person. There are sound technicians, editors, color gradeers, camera operators, directors and art directors. It is also common for team members to share multiple versions of edited footage. Managing these files and providing easy access to everyone on the team is a priority for every video production team. Today, Adobe is announcing Frame.io Drive to make sharing files and edits easy.

Frame.io Drive is a desktop app that lets you open your Frame.io projects on your computer, as if they were stored on your computer. I edit and share videos with clients regularly. My productions are small and usually only involve myself and my client. I upload my proposed edit to Google Drive and I send a link for my client to download the file. My client sends feedback and waits for me to send a link to download the next version of the project. While this workflow is better than the old days when I had to deliver edits on flash drives, my video workflow is not  ideal. Things really fall apart if I or my client are working in a location that has slow internet connection.

If my client and I were using Frame.io Drive, I would create a shared project that my client could access from their computer without having to download large files. They would not need a new link for each iteration of the video. They would not have to keep track of where they stored the downloaded file. I would have no fear that they might use the wrong version of the edit.

I have not tested Frame.io Drive, but Adobe promises that files will stream instantly and you can be confident that everyone on your team will access the correct version of the file.

Frame.io Drive is now available for Enterprise customers. Other users will be granted access shortly, according to Adobe. If you are interested in this application, visit the Frame.io blog. If you would like to access the application as soon as possible, you can join the waitlist.
