Here Are 10 Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Mirrorless Camera

It's fairly safe to say the number of mirrorless options available to photographers is exploding at the moment, and you may be considering purchasing such a camera yourself. Here are 10 things to think about before you purchase a specific model.

Coming to you from Pierre T. Lambert, this helpful video talks about 10 things to consider before purchasing a mirrorless camera (though many of the points apply readily to DSLRs as well). Mirrorless cameras are advancing at a breakneck pace, and many pros are embracing them for the advantages they offer. Nonetheless, just like with DSLRs, no model is perfect, and there are a lot of functionality and user experience differences between models that you should carefully consider when deciding which to purchase, particularly if you're locking yourself into a new mount and lens ecosystem. I've personally had a lot of success using my Sony a7R III for landscapes, portraits, and some events, but I've found that autofocus performance using adapted lenses generally isn't fast enough for things like baseball, and because there are certain lenses that don't exist in the Sony ecosystem, my second body remains a Canon 1D X Mark II for a lot of work. It all comes down to your needs and desires.

I'd add 3 things

- JPEG/preview characteristics
- Tethering options and software support. It took Capture One around 4 months to support the Panasonic G9.
- Mobile App

Now that's two of the best ideas I've encountered all day! 😉

The Volkswagen XL1 car is mirrorless

There is missing only one advice to be complete "Buy a Sony" camera video is to have eye focus detection :-D But it's not their fault that Sony has it all, right? ;-) ;-) ;-) :-) // I'm a Canon shooter btw, but pleased with Sony new stuff :-) //

I'm pretty sure the A7R III also wirelessly interfaces with your PlayStation so you can photograph scenes of you fighting Zombies with just a pool noodle! ;-)

Panasonic G9 ticks all the boxes as well

Oh no! Not another You Tube wannabe TV presenter. How many more can there be out there?
