London, 2012, Olympic Games and the Womens' Triathlon. I had 7 laps to try to get a nice panning shot of the competitors against the Union Jack flags and it's really, really difficult to get this right - and this was the best that I got. This is (I think) Daniela Ryf who is a Swiss athlete. Nikon D90, 1/200 at f5.6 ISO 400 with the kit zoom at 105mm. I think I learnt a fair bit about how not to do it ... but I still love the movement and colour in this shot despite its obvious technical deficits. Try squinting at it when small ...

First observation. The rider is captured awesome, great job with the panning. The second observation, the blurred background shows movement. The third observation, the framing of the rider tells a story and has us wanting more.
Great shot. This is something that could be used in a sports magazine or news website.
