2.35 - "Needs Work"

analog meets digital - freeski

this is a shot from a personal project
i put some thoughts in visualising the theme "contrast" combined with sports
it resulted in a series of digital shots taken through an analog mamiya viewfinder

to make things clear this is not a montage with some fishy photoshop work involved, it's a real single shot and everything was done in-camera (despite some adjustments in color and contrast)

in this shot i mounted my dslr on a tripod placed on the dry wooden ground close to the kicker setup we build upfront, trying to get a decent action shot of a friend's freeski air tricks

the camera is facing down to the analog live-view through the mirrored image of the mamiya facing to the front
i used two small remote flashes at full power trying to make the rider stand out of the background more

the main idea was to also visualise the seasonal contrast by snow combined with a dry spring wood

I like the colors in this, but I like your surf shot a lot better.
The image in camera is a bit busy, and then the background the camera is sitting on is busy too. Maybe take this on snow so it is easier to focus on the main image and to find the skier? Or some plank of wood for under the camera with just a tiny bit of a leaf or something?
I really like this concept. Keep doing it! :-)

i totally agree with your points
i'd prefer an all over snowy landscape in frame as well, but i wanted to show contrast in the shot itself as well
maybe i should make another series with more polished ones:)

Yeah, some more would be awesome!
