Mesa Arch...this is an image that I had been wanting to capture for a long time. I had the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas for work. My wife and I enjoy camping and seeing the National Parks. So we decided that she would come and join me the last day of the trip and we would extend and make a vacation of it. We rented an RV and came up with a plan to see Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyon Lands and Capital Reef National Parks. When we arrived at Canyon Lands I told my wife that there was one shot in particular that I wanted. This was Mesa Arch at sunrise. We got up in the wee hours of the morning to make ready for our adventure. We reached the trailhead about two hours before sunrise. My wife couldn't understand why we were up so early when the arch was relatively close to where we were camping. I told her that I wanted to make sure that I got a good spot for the sunrise. Disgruntled though she was, we made our way to the location. Much to my surprise and also relief, we arrived at the arch to find that there was just enough room for me to setup my tripod and camera for the coming sunrise.

I captured this image with my Olympus OM-D EM-1 MkII and a rented 7-14mm f2.8. Due to the extreme dynamic range, I took seven exposure bracketed photos and merged them in LR for the final edit. In the image it appears that there was fog present that morning, but in fact, this was smoke from California wildfires. I'm sure glad that we got to the arch when we did, otherwise this could have turned out a great disappointment. Instead it was on of the highlights of the vacation.
