Merzouga, Morocco
I was originally supposed to go camping with my friend, whom I met during my first visit to Morocco six months earlier, but a sandstorm blew across the desert, keeping us from being able to venture out into the dunes. However, just after midnight, the storm passed, and we decided to walk out into the dunes after all at least to enjoy the beauty of the desert under the light of a full moon. As we sat in the sand, the peace and beauty of the moment became almost overwhelming. I decided to take a picture of my friend in the moonlight with the stars above him, but I didn't have my tripod with me. So, I buried the body of my camera in the sand to hold it steady, then trusted my lens had the whole scene in view as I released the shutter for a long exposure. This was the resulting image.
Great photo.
