This was a rush to shoot. I had an opportunity to go photograph pro motocross riders on their practice track. This was early 2012 and I had my first DSLR, a Nikon D5100. My lens of choice was the 35mm 1.8 because it was 1/2 of my lens selection and the 50 wouldn't do it. At this point I had already been there a little while and the riders wanted to do some fun shots. I asked about getting a good whip shot and mentioned standing on the takeoff. He said something like "If youre brave enough". I walked over to the left side of the ramp and squatted down. After I got my composition, exposure and focus ready I said "ready!". He came around at speed passing me within a few feet and throwing down a great whip. The dust cloud you see is from dragging the rear tire across the ramp as he went up the takeoff. I shot in the highest fps my camera would give me and this was the best one. Of course there is some enhancement in photoshop mainly to bring out the texture in the dirt cloud. The rider is Les Smith

My current camera is the Nikon D500 and I would of LOVED to have it back then.
