I came to Chureito Pagoda hoping to get my typical tourist photo of Mount Fuji, but Fuji-San never revealed himself through the thick clouds that morning. Instead, I found this; morning light breaking through mist and trees, illuminating a quiet, hidden corner of the hillside. What began as disappointment slowly shifted into stillness and reflection. In the absence of the expected, something more subtle emerged: a moment of calm, of acceptance, and of beauty that might have otherwise been overlooked. While the 60 other people on the observation deck stared at a hidden Mt. Fuji, I was looking behind them at this moment.
