The Month Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) came to Visit
Sony ILCE-7SM3 + FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS. at 35.0 mm, 2s, ISO 1600, 2024-10-17 Manual mode.
Since 1986 when Halley's Comet passed by it was the film days and yes had a Canon Ftb but was busy in the Navy as well as traveling back and forth to Mississippi from Jacksonville Florida mostly at night. Halley's Comet was in the sky seemed like forever wherever we were. This month of October 2024 and we had clear skies most of the month and I was just looking for foregrounds to make a story.
This is the Dames Point Bridge that is I 295 over the St. Johns River and the power lines supply electricity to all of Jacksonville Florida from a Coal Plant. The right side along side the St. Johns River is Jacksonville's busy port for goods coming and going with cranes that look like dinosaurs.
In the photography world in the past and today photographers are afraid of ground light glow, in the past it was the high-pressure sodium (HPS) lights where filters helped to reduce it. Today LED white lights have come to be and now the white light gives us the natural colors of day to be at night and the glow stays low to the ground, looking like a studio lights.
I do a lot of night captures like Milky Way's all over Jacksonville, nights are when everyone is at home watching TV and other things. I never knew it till lately that I am a severe Lone Wolf Introvert and love night time quiet and the colorful light show.
C/2023 A3 just had me going to so many places using most of my lenes with every night location, the best thing is I could see it so framing was great and only having to use aperture mode due to all brightness was even better, yes this was manual but with cameras like the A7SM3 all you had to do is look at the M.M. (metering mode) number while adjusting the ISO to get 0.0 but I like 0.7 and looking at the histogram. I maybe hated for saying this but I always use in camera Noise Reduction, what is a couple of seconds vs 10 shots stacked and more work in post. One thing also is the cameras Bright Monitoring that brighten the foreground and ISO Invariance that few photographers know about letting one use a lower ISO and just brighten with exposure in post.
