Elation, awe, gratefulness. The feeling when you finally finish work and walk down to the beach to discover the sky is putting on a show just for you.

I captured this image with a Nikon D7500 and a 18-140 mm lens on an early winter evening in Venice Beach, California. I was focusing on the mountains and the pinkish glow of the sun on the sea when this joyous man walked into frame, seemingly thanking the heavens for their overwhelming beauty.

With the aperture at f/9 flattening the landscape and other people in the background, the man, in the centre of the frame with his arms outstretched, is still the main character despite being out of focus.
