The Canon 77D is Available and Shipping

When Canon announced it's new 77D, there was a little confusion as to where it fit into canon's line up. The specs make the 77D somewhat of a hybrid between the 70D and the 80D. For a more detailed description of the differences in the models, check out our previous post explaining what each model has to offer. At it's price point of $899, the 77D might be just what you're looking for and is now available to the public. The Canon 77D DSLR Camera includes the following:

  • 24.2MP APS-C CMOS Sensor
  • DIGIC 7 Image Processor
  • 3.0" 1.04m-Dot Vari-Angle Touchscreen
  • Full HD 1080p Video Recording at 60 fps
  • 45-Point All Cross-Type Phase-Detect AF
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF
  • Up to 6 fps Shooting and ISO 51200
  • Built-In Wi-Fi with NFC, Bluetooth
  • Top LCD and Rear Quick Control Dial
  • RGB+IR 7560-Pixel Metering Sensor

Although the 77D fits a little oddly into Canon's lineup, for $899 you get a better camera than the 70D and save a couple hundred dollars for the missing features that are included in the 80D.

I have no idea how people are supposed to choose between the 77D, the 80D, the M5, the M6 or whatever the new Ti rebel model is out now, maybe T7I or whatever. Those are basically 5 very similar cameras between $600US and $1100 US. How are people expected to choose just based on looks, size, viewfinder or no viewfinder, mirrorless or SLR, or where the back screen flips, or doesn't flip or even if they need a top camera LCD or not.
