Is their low light performance is much better in 3rd generation than in 1st?

A pancake lens for a MF camera. The comedic value is appreciated.

Buy big camera. Attach pancake lens...

Is the GFX50r that big?

It's as big as a full-sized DSLR with integrated grip. Seems weird to me to stick a pancake lens on something that size, but to each his own.

Don’t get me wrong, I have zero interest in medium format cameras but I do however love 40mm focal length which is about what that lens is and I’m sure a lot of 50r owners will love the relative compact setup.. people with too much money will use it on the 100 :)

I'm envious id love a compact RF lens that's pancaked

the 50 and gfx100 makes sense for double spreads and less cropping to fit, will correct framing mistakes and the need to re-shoot because the focal will remind by it's nature to frame properly
999 for a standard MF lens is unusual or never seen before. this makes the gfx100 even cheaper to get and shoot right away. (by september, as you can't get a gfx100 before then anyway)
