Which Camera Is Better for Landscape Photography? Sony a7R IV Versus Nikon Z 7II

Both the Sony a7R IV and the Nikon Z 7 II are both very capable cameras, especially if you’re a landscape photographer and super-fast autofocus performance isn’t a prime concern. Which of these two cameras is the better option?

Chris Niccolls and Jordan Drake of DPReview TV compare and contrast the two cameras, weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of each. Not many will be fretting over the difference in resolution — 61 megapixels in the Sony and 45 megapixels in the Nikon — especially when you consider that machine learning is bringing impressive improvements for those seeking to use software to increase the dimensions of individual files.

Price is perhaps a significant factor not taken into account in this video: while the Z 7II will set you back just under three grand, the a7R IVA is an extra $500. However, for those wishing to watch their budget, consider that the wealth of third-party glass available for Sony cameras might give you the chance to make some significant savings.

Availability might also be a factor: B&H Photo has the freshly updated a7R IVA with its improved rear display on its shelves and ready to ship, while the Z 7II is still listed as unavailable: the body on its own is back-ordered until the end of July, and there's another two- to four-week delay if you'd like it with the FTZ adapter.

Which would be your preference and why? Let us know in the comments below.

It's landscape photography! Get a Nikon D3300 or a Sony a6000 and be done with it! B-)

So when doing a gear review that compares the z 7ii with the a7R iv, you should just go and get two different cameras? 😂

I must agree with Mark.
For landscapes you don't need this kind of camera, unless you print your pictures by the sqare acres

Tried not to laugh. I failed.

Fujifilm X-T2 all the way, my reasons, it’s sat in the Lowepro downstairs with all the glass I need to get the shot.

Total click-bait article. Pretty much all modern cameras should be sufficient for capturing good landscape images. Next time write an article on how to take better landscape photos.

I'm confused. This video and accompanying article was about comparing two specific cameras. The title made this clear.

So you both like chasing the MP hype. We know it is rally about f/# for near and far and a selected lens for everything far away getting it all in including your peripheral vision or that light on a cliff up there closer. Software can make a 12MP like a 62MP sharp and clean. I used the A7s for years for landscape and got great images and using old FD and EF-S and nothing fancy Lr. Even knowing jpeg setting will get great shots.Save $ and just read camera instructions.

for landscape work, you would be best off with an older a7RII - 1200 bucks with a 42 mp sensor - and spend the difference on glass..
