I’m curious as to how you get your photos seen here. Why do people start a discussion? How often does this site have contests? I did figure out how to vote, but have yet to submit.....at least I don’t think I have! Lol Thanks for your patience and any feedback that you care to share.
Wow! I lke these, Carla! Welcome. The first is very painterly. Your second image could also be posted in "Minimalism, Abstract, Experimental".
I hope you'll find this a friendly and stimulating site. Trolling is remarkably absent.
How long is a piece of string? I guess people start discussions for all sorts of personal reasons, but judging by the discussions, posting in the Groups like this one seems to be motivated by a desire for constructive feedback.
To get seen and get the feedback, I think it helps to write comments in various Groups, so you develop some sort of identity in people's minds, to rate images, and to follow people whose work you like, or who interest you for any reason. (I follow one or two just to see their latest antics for my amusement! Now some whose work I DO admire will start wondering...) I comment a lot, and have found that new followers appear when I haven't posted for ages. These will at least receive notification when I do post an image.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful response!
Carla, welcome! These are fantastic shots, great work! :-)
Hi Carla. I'd say the first one has too much Orton effect or whatever you used in the foreground, and there's too much contrast in the sky, that's why it's so noisy. It's a scene that would improve with better weather conditions, like a nice morning mist. The boat with the cabin is also not very interesting, while the right half of the frame is very nice with that red building, the wooden pier and the trees. The second one is intersting indeed, I'm a bit distracted by the weird shape of the horizon, while I'd rather focus on those very interesting clouds. Hope this helps.
Beautiful work! Welcome to the group!
I would say avoid the contests. Or enter as often as you like until you come to the same realization as most other people: the votes are mostly 1s and 2s by other entrants who are trying to artificially lower the ratings of their opposition.
And I would recommend titling your posts with something that describes what we might find therein. I see a lot of "Tell me what you think" headlines and that gives me no information about the images I might find when I click. Or when I DON'T click, as those titles annoy me. (You're new, so I'll let it slide.) :)
Wow, that’s a good tidbit to know about how people vote. I’d never think to give a low vote as a strategy to win.
I appreciate your thoughtful response.
I like the B&W shot
