We took a short trip up into the mountains because my daughter wanted to learn more about landscape photography (Yes! Obviously we're raising her right!). Our first stop was Wildcat Branch Falls, a short waterfall on the roadside that, in the summer, serves as a great swimming hole.
As always, CC is greatly appreciated! This is a spot we visit often, so any advice you have on composition, lighting, editing, etc., I'd love to hear it!
Nice image :)
You may try cropping the sides to bring more attention to the fall itself; this image lends itself to more of a portrait orientation imho.
As for other edits, perhaps lifting shadows a bit...
Thanks for posting!
Hi Mark. Sharing instantaneous thoughts. Sure, these are not the only ways.
COMPOSITION: (a) bottom left rock feature can be explored to be in foreground at low level. (b) any similar elements as leading lines to the water fall. (c) vertical crop with negative positive spaces. But this could be a bit tricky (d) many horizontal lines at the fall, Horizontal crop can be explored artistically. (e) With CPL is it possible to see elements in transparent water? could be a good foreground too.
TONALITY: (a) in general frame, shadows need to be brightened. (b) Low-key could be an artistic option
COLOUR: green leaves in contrast with dry bright orange leaves in grey+white may set a different mood al together
Happy clicking.
