Before capturing Ashes of Sunlight, the panorama I shared a few days ago, I spent some time wandering around and experimenting with different foregrounds and perspectives. I had been waiting years for the right conditions in Bardenas Reales, so I wanted to make the most of every minute of that evening.
This panorama was one of those early attempts — a quieter moment, just before the sky fully ignited. The sun was still a little high, the colours softer, and the light gently washing over the desert textures. But there was something about the scene that drew me in: the cracked patterns on the ground, the distant silhouette of Castildetierra, and that subtle warm glow hinting at what was about to come.
It’s not as dramatic as the main panorama, but it captures the anticipation — that transition between ordinary light and the magic you hope is just around the corner.
A moment of calm before the desert burns with colour.
