If you're in Salamanca, don't miss the University's Biblioteca General Histórica. Founded in 1254 by Alfonso X the Wise, it is the oldest university library in Spain and Europe. Within its walls, you’ll find priceless manuscripts and incunabula, such as Doña Sancha’s “Liber Canticorum” and the “Libro de buen amor” by the Archpriest of Hita. The armillary spheres, acquired by Diego de Torres Villarroel, lend an air of mystery and ancient wisdom. Without a doubt, it is a place steeped in history and knowledge, where every book, manuscript, and object tells a unique story. When I was there (in 2025), the only way to see the library was through a glass wall.
