The entrance hall with its dome
An opening in the richly decorated ceiling of the entrance hall provides a view into the dome up to a height of around 40 meters. Portraits of important personalities from the history of the collection are arranged around this opening. The first director of the Natural History Museum, Ferdinand von Hochstetter, and Johann Natterer are also immortalized here. The finest stones and materials were used for the interior design. The white marble for the floor comes from Carrara, the black lime from Belgium. The walls are clad in plaster marble.
