Glass dome over the octagon
Designed by architect Giuseppe Mengoni in 1864, the buildings are lavishly decorated with stucco, frescoes, and marble. The passage consists of two intersecting wings spanned by a barrel-vaulted glass roof. At the intersection of the galleries is an octagonal plaza with a diameter of 39 meters. The glass dome above this octagon reaches a height of 47 meters.
