Loch Garry in the Scottish Highlands

The drive from Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye is probably the moodiest stretch of road in the UK. I’ve driven past Loch Garry 4 times on my way to Fort William: twice on my first landscape trip years ago, and twice on my most recent trip. Just between two trips, Scotland felt like a completely different place this time with patches of sunlight peeking through brooding clouds.

“If you don’t like the weather, wait 20 minutes.” The Scottish adage is pretty accurate — during a few days you can expect to witness 15 different Scotlands as the clouds, rain and light change rapidly. All you have to do is drive through it and snap away when one Scotland’s more scenic fits comes on.

3-shot bracketed exposure.
