Did you know America's first steam locomotive lost its opening race to a horse? The train's engine titled "Tom Thumb" could have driven the train to victory had it not broken a belt in the middle of the race.  If you've ever camped in the Gorge you have heard the train as it zooms by all day into the wee hours of the night blaring its horn for all to hear. What can easily be a nuisance to light sleeping campers I think of as a very interesting muse 🤔
