Among the Wild Things

Found these right by our campsite in this area of Gates of the Arctic National Park. It was hard to say if they were fresh or not, as the river bed did a great job of preserving tracks. We didn't see a bear in the area, but lots of signs. It surprised us because this valley pretty much ends at the base of these granite peaks and it would be extremely difficult for a bear to traverse without proper climbing equipment...

I really liked the portrayal of wildlife in the landscape...it gives a good sense of what backcountry Alaska is all about.
