Sand Dunes, Pea Island

It was late afternoon when I saw these sand dunes and grasses at Pea Island in Cape Hatteras National Wildlife refuge. It was windy which caused the sands to be very smooth with a few ripples. The lowering sun rays caused a few shadows to give the scene contrasts against the light blue sky. Rendering it as a black & white seemed the best way to create the right mood using luminosity and contrast.

Lovely contrast and beautiful tones with a great subject. I'm from Raleigh moved away to join the chair force a lifetime ago. One day I will walk the beaches of North Carolina and capture something meaningful.

Thank you…. There are a lot of images left on that beach….
