This is another shot from my 3 day trip into the Sahara Desert. The shadow, light and natural curves of the dunes provide the opportunity to visualize the abstracts in the desert. Shadows are not real. However, they provide a realistic vision.

Ed, beautiful!
? could you elaborate ... "Shadows are not real." ?
Ha! Shadows are not real things. They result from objects that block the sun. The can’t be touched, felt etc…. Yet, they help to create visual dimensionality. This was a theme in a discussion by noted landscape photographer Alister Benn. He published the book Out of Darkness…. https://www.onlandscape.co.uk/2023/07/out-of-darkness-book-review/
I see, I thought you were saying you added them or manipulated in the image. Not the old Peter Pan syndrome of trying to catch your shadow.
On the deeper side of enlightenment … “Pitch Black and Pure White only exists in the human mind” - me.
And, Peter, Alister wander in these dunes or Death Valley at 100˚ plus, you’ll have a whole new appreciation for the shadows … and yes the “shadow knows” ;) So glad you didn’t add or manipulate the shadows.
Hey, I might sneak out to Death Valley in March
I really like this image!
It did conjure up for me the idea of a chocolate river flowing in the dessert, although the flow was also not realistic!
But seriously, the contrast and play of light, shadow, and colors are fantastic!
Thanks
