Not so long ago I started trying to come up with my own makeups and realize them myself. It was not so easy to convince every model that the result would be great as I didn't really know if I could do it or not…
This project was the second makeup I ever did on my own with no help of a makeup artist and it turned out quite alright.
Being able to do everything can sometimes be a big plus. When you don't have to find the words to describe what you want or have the possibility of changing anything along the way is awesome. Also I don't have to worry about frustrating my mua because I changed a color in post.
Having a little knowledge of what people that work with you do is simply awesome. Now it is way easier to exchange techniques, get the result I want when I have a makeup artist on set and I even can help if there is the need for it.
Makeup is something every portrait/beauty photographer should look into to improve their craft.
