While this isn't anything new, it appears as Western Digital is releasing a one-step solution for photographers needing to backup SD cards on location.
Hyperlapse is growing in popularity, despite the difficulty of creating a seamless finished product... until now. Instagram is releasing a new app later today that, if it works as well as it appears in the promotional videos, will make hyperlapsing not only easy, but puts the power to make compelling hyperlapse videos in the palms of anyone's hands. Their new app is appropriately named "Hyperlapse" and it looks spectacular.
Coversplash, a new photo sharing and photography forum site, is the creation of four college guys who wanted to create a one stop shop for all your photo needs. Coversplash gives you the ability to create a website to show off your work, easily tell stories with integrated tools, sell stock images and even interact with other photographers in the community.
YouTube Star Michelle Phan, who has 6.7 million subscribers to her beauty tutorials, is being sued for multiple copyright infringements. Ultra Records claim Phan has used music from its artists Kaskade, Deadmau5, and Calvin Harris, and profited from them. The company's lawyers claim they have found over 50 examples of her using said music.

Lucky for us, a Chinese company has made a knock off that is cheaper, has a ton more power and takes AA batteries. After a class action lawsuit, Nikon has announced they are performing free sensor cleanings and shutter replacement for all D600 cameras. As an owner of a D600 I am glad to see Nikon is being held to fixing this very common issue. Funny enough I had my sensor cleaned on Sunday for oil spots.

I am always on the search for how to make my editing more productive, because honestly, it isn't my favorite part of being a photographer. We have posted in the past about culling your images using a game-pad. However by adding VSCO Keys to your workflow you can map almost any Lightroom slider on your remote. I have included program links and configuration files for an easy setup with an Xbox Remote.
I rarely use gels or modifiers on my speedlites because I am lazy and in a hurry on wedding days. I just fix the color issues in post. However today I was notified that a new product was posted on Kickstarter. Meet the MagMod, a simple magnetic band that mounts to your flash allowing modifiers to be slapped on and off. Check it out, I just backed the project myself.
We have posted several articles regarding the Brenizer Method (here and here) in the past, but none from the man himself, Ryan Brenizer. Ryan is easily one of the top wedding photographers in the nation. He shoots over 60 weddings a year and probably only sleeps 3 hours a day. He is offering a full guide on how he shoots his method from the first photo through post production. When the method is done correctly your image could have the depth of field of a f/.04 lens.
I recently got engaged and have started the process of finding my wedding photographer. Something that has become very hard since I have decided to rule out the possibility of a friend shooting it, because let's face it, they need to be drinking. Von Wong recently did a product shoot for ioSafe hard drives where he had to produce two images: one highlighting the hard drives' fireproof abilities and the other its waterproofing. I love free stuff, who doesn't. After going through the software and services I use to run my business, I was pleasantly surprised how many were free. I do not mind paying for software, but I also don't mind using software that may have ads running to pay the developers. Nothing is worse than having to pay that dreaded monthly fee to use a service or software.
This week Getty has opened its public domain artworks collection for free use to, modify and publish for any purpose. They will allow access to 4,600 high-res images with more to come. As my wedding business grows, the need to be organized is key. I have recently begun using Trello to organize and track my photography workflow. From the first inquiry email to the final package delivery, I have created a checklist and boards to keep business on track and on time.
Pye from SLR lounge shows us how he used light painting and a strobe to get this amazing engagement photo. Pye booked an engagement session where the couple were both into track racing and had very nice cars. They decided to incorporate the couple's hobby with their shoot. Living in NYC and having to drag gear around I have become very particular about my camera and gear bags. Comfort, size, weight, and protection are the deciding factors, then I worry if I look cool or not (you can’t go wrong with a black bag). I started looking for a small light stand case that would fit nano stands, a small umbrella and a monopod. This is usually what I use for reception lighting at weddings. Fro Knows Photo received an email from Fred Dingelhoff, a blind photographer in the Netherlands. Fred lost his right eye when he was 9 months old to a tumor and then when he was 21 years old a tumor in his optic nerve took his sight in his left eye.

I was quickly notified by our reader Ryan Dunn that this device looks and acts much like Julius von Bismarck's Image Fulgurator. I quickly did some searching to find out if this was true and stumbled across Julius' website and an interview he did back in 2008 with Wired. Jared Polin of froknowsphoto.com recently shot a concert for Macklemore of Thrift Shop Fame. Jared shot the concert with a GoPro strapped to his Canon 1D X so you could really get a feel for what a photographer does first person. Commentary was recorded over the video so you can hear what he was thinking while he was shooting.
After dating for more then 2 years and having some of the best years of my life the time came to propose to my girlfriend. I knew I wanted something intimate, original / unique and true to who we are. I had the idea to use a vintage camera and tripod as part of the proposal. Then the experimenting began to find the best way to incorporate this.

Red Bull just put out this BTS video of Mike Whiddett drifting the Crown Range in Queenstown, New Zealand. The Crown Range is the highest paved roadway in NZ and has some amazing views. A ton of Go Pros, slow motion cameras, and some unreal helicopter video were used to make this final production. Check the rest of the post to see the final video and link to Mike's interview.
