A few weeks ago I got a friend request and a nice message from Travis Harris, a shooter out of Miami that I had never met before. 4 weeks later he was on a plane to assist me and hang out for 5 days. Travis left yesterday and just a few minutes ago he wrote a kind and inspiring post about his trip on our forum. Travis took a big chance and I think we can all learn from him.
Well it took a few weeks but we have finally received our first contest submission. Dave Gruentzel Photography of Photofide.com has created a solid BTS video of their latest underwater shoot. Today we shot what I believe will be our biggest video yet. It isn't going to be big because we featured a famous photographer because I, Lee Morris was the photographer. We did something very different today; something I believe has never been done before.

We finally got our forum up and running and we hope that everyone that visits Fstoppers will also take part in the community we are trying to create. Here is a quick timelapse of one of Pete's latests commercial gigs. It is a bit difficult to see what he is exactly doing in terms of lighting but I am simply impressed by the complexity of this shoot. Look how many people are on the set! Ray Demski, Marcel Lämmerhirt, and Chris Stadler were all commissioned by Red Bull to shoot their cliff diving event in Hamburg. Shooting the event was no easy task but luckily for us Ray Demski was kind enough to share how they did it.
I actually just stumbled upon this and was really impressed. Below is the actual commercial and the behind the scenes video.

Patrick and I shoot and edit all of our videos but we had to hire someone to do the animation work (our intro and outro logos). That someone was Dan Dawley of Swell Motion Graphics. It took me about 2 months and about 30 terrible animators until I finally found Dan. He works fast (each animation in a matter of hours) and his prices were more than fair.
I am happy to say that today we reached 1000 followers on Twitter and that means we can finally begin our contest. Please give us a few more days to film the video explaining all of the details of the contest. We cannot give out too much information yet but I will say that it has something to do with the best behind the scenes video.
Normally I would not be too interested in this sort of thing. Honestly I don't really get the hype with these shoulder mounts. However, this is so well made and the follow focus he added is genius. Check it out.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to shoot a fashion show? Last month Patrick and I had the unique opportunity to follow Todd Surber and Reese Allen of King Street Studios around as they shot Charleston Fashion Week. Todd was in charge of capturing the standard runway shots and that freed up Reese to do something a bit more unique.

Here is a very simple video of a very complicated photoshoot. I have trouble posing 1 subject but Douglas has to pose 7 guys, a truck, and a hovering helicopter. After turning day into night with Photoshop this is one successful shoot.

A few days ago I posted Patrick's video of his friends jumping on a trampoline in the desert... I just ran across his skim boarding video on vimeo and I am once again smiling while I watch his work. You want to know how he did it? Simple; he put a GoPro HD Hero on a monopod and threw it around in the ocean. Love it!
I am currently up here in NYC and Patrick Hall is coming up on Monday. Our goal was to come to the city to create our next Fstoppers video and the photographer that we had planned to feature doesn't have any big shoots lined up for next week.
