Aaron Nace's latest concept shoot is top notch

I just recieved a tip from one of our readers to check out Aaron's blog. I am so glad I did because not only is his photography fantastic; his behind the scenes videos are also interesting and informative. Check out his last shoot in the woods and then head on over to his website here. Behind the Scenes - Baxter from Aaron Nace on Vimeo.

Film VS DSLR Video

Many of you have already seen this but if you haven't you should check it out. Zacuto (the company that makes add-ons for DSLR video) has put together the most extensive video quality test I have ever seen. You can check out this weeks video at http://www.zacuto.com/shootout . Below is just a trailer since the full video is not able to be embedded any longer

Joel Sartore Shoots Endangered Species

Joel's latest book, Rare: Portraits of America's Endangered Species is now available. What started as a personal project grew to a multi-year effort to document everything from grizzly bears to endangered flies.

Lars Franzen Shoots A Fight

Lars Franzen shows us how to take amazing pictures outside with only small battery powered strobes. If you want to see more of Lars' amazing photography check out his site at: www.larsfranzen.com

Christopher Lynch Shoots The Satellite Nation

Before Fstoppers.com launched I was in NYC at a scuba store preparing for my trip to Belize. I was talking to the store owner about underwater photography and Christopher Lynch walked up and joined in the conversation. Chris explained that he was a professional commercial shooter and after some great advice he gave me his card and went on his way.

Glen Bowden Shoots Amanda Klaassen For Veve Swimwear

Glen Writes:

This was a dream job! To shoot a bikini catalogue in an exotic country with a great team! We were flown over to Bali from Australia with myself (Glen Bowden - Photographer), Stylist - Michelle Bennett, Makeup and Hair - Mia Connor and Vanessa and her family from Veve Glamour Swimwear. The model was Amanda Klaassen.

Sam Robles Photography Studio

Hello my name is Sam Robles and I am a new contributing photographer on the fstoppers team. I'm a commercial shooter working in South Florida. My favorite subjects are athletes and real people. I also shoot interiors, products, sports, etc.

Every Tuesday I'll create a post about my field: commercial photography.

How to gain manual video control on Nikon D3s

The Nikon D3s is Nikon's only DSLR capable of giving the user full manual control of video capture on the camera. This means you can control aperture, ISO sensitivity and shutter speed. In this post we'll explain how you can easily gain manual control of video on the Nikon D3s.

Ramón Gellida's shoot was so long his model passed out 3 times

In the beginning the project was only for the commercial product (packages/box), I was able to convince the customer to go all the way with advertising in one of the preproduction meetings; at first he was a bit reluctant to include art and finally agreed. I came up with the concept: a red round sofa, a chandelier and some other kind of chair, sofa with some props.

How To Shoot Better Videos With Your DSLR 2 of 3

So yesterday we talked about setting your camera to shoot video. Today we get a little more complicated. Let's chat about audio. Tomorrow we will take it one step further and discuss the most dreaded part of video... editing! If you have a Canon camera that shoots video, view the full post to check out a video on audio made just for you.

Do You Know Who Dave Hill Is? You Should

I have been following Dave Hill for years now and recently he was hired to shoot a picture series for the March issue of Digital SLR Photography Magazine. Dave has an amazing style to his photography; it almost looks like an illustration. Check out Dave's website here and check out snapshots from this shoot right out of the magazine on his blog here.

Jason Koontz shoots fashion photographer James Weber behind the scenes

Here is an example of a behind the scenes video that puts ours to shame. We love the editing as much as we love the final images. Check out the photographers unbelievable portfolio here and check out Jason's video portfolio reel here.

How To Shoot Better Videos With Your DSLR 1 of 3

I have been getting email after email from our readers saying that they are still photographers and even though their camera can shoot video they either don't think they can figure it out or they are not interested in learning.

We have a problem, we have become too popular

First of all, we want to thank everyone for their interest in our site. We launched Fstoppers 3 days ago. On day 1 we got 250 hits and I thought that was really good. On day 2 we got 4000 hits and I was blown away. Today we got 12,000 hits and I started to freak out. Why? Because we are running this site mostly through Vimeo.com which actually costs money (it isn't free like Youtube).

Philips Carousel

This online film by director Adam Berg and Stink Digital (http://www.stinkdigital.tv/) took home the Cannes Lions 2009 Film Grand Prix, and boy did it deserve it!  Developed to highlight Philips new 21:9 cinema proportion television, the film consists of one long tracking shot a la Goodfellas (albeit with more explosions and clowns).  Check out the visual masterpiece and then the maki

Fstoppers Launches Today

In the past 3 months Patrick Hall and I (Lee Morris) have been working on this idea. As professional photographers we love watching other pros work. Everyone has their own technique and style and when a new behind the scenes video pops up on a blog or forum we are the first to watch it intently.

Eric Bradshaw Goes All Out With His Island Fashion Shoot

So like I said, when we heard Eric's plan we knew that we had to document his photoshoot. This was actually the very first video that we ever made. We shot this with (3) D90 cameras (the D300s wasn't out yet) and for the interview we recorded Eric with an iPhone and then dubbed it over because the D90 didn't have any audio in.

Patrick And I go to Las Vegas/Shoot In A $15,000 Per Night Penthouse

So here's the story; Patrick and I had the idea for FStoppers and we knew that we had to create a bunch of videos to get others excited about creating their own. We had some free time and some money in the bank after a solid wedding season so we decided to go to Vegas. We did not do a good enough job planning anything.

I Learn To Scuba/Fail At Underwater Photography

I spend most of my time in Charleston, SC and NYC. It was February and Charleston was uncomfortably cold and NYC was unbearably cold. I had some free time so I decided to fly down to Placencia, Belize and learn to scuba dive. As a photographer I wanted to get some cool photography as well.

Lee Morris Attempts To Shoot A Rolex Watch

I am not a product photographer but I really enjoy the work that goes into creating a great product shot. In this video I attempt to shoot a Rolex Daytona watch. I am not a product photographer so I had to figure out a lot of this as I was shooting. If you have any helpful comments leave them below.

Make your SB-800 better in under 10 minutes

I actually made a video about this over a year ago when I had no clue how to use Premiere. I also didn't have and wireless mics so I edited the whole video in movie maker and everyone who saw it said they couldn't hear me over the music. So we decided to reshoot it with our fancy D300s cameras, Sennheiser Mics, and Adobe Premiere.

The PC Sync Cord Needs To Die

Why am I using digital SLR cameras and wireless radio triggers that are at the forefront of technology but I am also forced to use the PC sync cord which has been out for over 60 years. It never works and I want it to die.

Which Should You Buy? Steadicam Merlin or Flycam 5000

When Patrick and I first started dabbling with the new video functions in our D90 camera, we quickly realized how important it was to stabilize our camera. A lot of the footage shot on our first Fstoppers Originals was shot just by hand holding our cameras...and it sure does show!

The Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 VC Lens Is My New Favorite Lens For Video

When we first set out to create Fstoppers and learn the ways of DSLR video, the first thing we learned was we had to stabilize our cameras. Handholding a DSLR produces horrible footage because 1) the rolling shutter effect, 2) DSLR cameras don't output enough data (at the moment) to render fluid movement, and 3) DSLRs aren't designed well for hand holding in the first place.

The Making Of The Old Spice Commercial: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

For the past year I have been trying to stay away from TV and I honestly can say that I had never seen this commercial before I watched this video. If I had I would have surely guessed that it was all computer graphics... I could not have been more wrong.

It is so refreshing to see that there all still people out there doing it the old fashion way. What do you guys think?
