Russell James is an extremely talented photographer who has shot for a long list of high end clients and famous celebrities. This behind the scenes video gives us a quick rundown of what it takes to produce and execute a high caliber photo shoot for a upper echelon glossy like GQ. Even though it moves fast, we can see from this glimpse what types of gear used during the shoot, how lights are set up and what it takes to work with talent like Erin Heatherton.

It's ok, you can just come out and say it. The sentence "we can see from this glimpse what types of gear used during the shoot, how lights are set up" could be more honestly written "we can see from this video a glimpse of side boob there, cleavage here and butt cheek there". The lighting used (from what little we saw of it) is the same lighting used in just about every BTS video of a high-fashion shoot (two pairs of strobes on either side lighting the background, etc). Nothing particularly new or interesting, or even very informative. I'm not criticizing the photographer, sytlists, etc. I'm sure they're all doing a great job and creating images that the client asks for, but I think it would be nice to call it what it really is...a 90 second piece of T&A footage, that happened to include a couple of quick shots of the umbrellas and computer monitor. I rarely, if ever use this word because I think it's kind of obnoxious, but here goes: Meh.
"Event though it moves fast" should be "Even though it moves fast". Seriously, spell check.
To be fair, the sentence is spelled correctly, albeit grammatically incorrect.
But kudos for being snarky on the internet.
spell check is a generic term for checking the content of your writings, much like coke- is in many places a generic term for soda.
Technically, it's not grammar. it is incorrect spelling whether it is a similarly composed word or not.
I think their going to they're appointment, is a grammar mistake.
Using event instead of even, is a spelling error.
Kudos for the meta snark by complaining about someone complaining about improper internet word usage, except he's a random commenter, and the person being lambasted actually gets paid for this shiz....
Russell James is a fair dinkum Aussie. Puts out some great work not bad for a former copper..
All I can see is four heads into umbrellas, flagged for the background and an octabank as the only light on her - is that it?
Easy :)
photography isn't that hard ;)
Looks to be it. Insert gorgeous model and flawless styling and proceed to be awesome.
I will watch it again and try to concentrate in the lights.
Anyone know what that parabolic umbrella-looking modifier is at the 30 second mark? I've seen that in a few videos now but haven't tracked down the brand/model.
Looks like a Bronco or Briese Parabolic.
I'm actually not sure why the 4 umbrellas were needed to light the background so much since the end result is supposed to be B&W. Working w/ talent like Erin seems more important...they just pose and emote so much better...
wouldn't it have been easier to bounce the light into the flag boards with out the umbrellas or does it give a different look?
